20 Years of Pathtrack
Pathtrack is proud to celebrate 20 years in business, marking two decades of growth, resilience and trusted service to customers across the globe. Since our creation in 2006, we have built our reputation on innovation, quality, reliability and long-standing relationships with our large and diverse customer base.
Over the past 20 years, Pathtrack has grown from two Electronic Engineers developing highly innovative low power GPS technology to a team of 17 staff with the diverse range of skills required to design, manufacture, build, test, export, support, sell and market a highly advanced range of products for use in conservation science around the world. The anniversary provides an opportunity to reflect on the people, partnerships and values that have shaped the business, while looking ahead to the next chapter.

During our 20-year history, we have achieved many important milestones, including continually achieving the world’s lightest weight GPS tracking tags. With our breakthrough picoFix® technology we are now able to produce fully packaged tags starting at 0.75g, which also include an accelerometer to provide additional behavioural data for our customers. Our product line continues to integrate an ever greater range of sensors with our picoFix® GPS technology, including depth, temperature, accelerometers and magnetometers. These achievements highlight the company’s commitment to continuous engineering excellence, which we combine with first class customer service to deliver high quality, dependable solutions in an evolving marketplace.
We have successfully developed a wide range of tags for tracking seabirds and waterbirds. Our ultra lightweight picoFix® tags at sub-1.0g have been deployed by our customers on well over 1000 storm petrels across Europe and North America and have helped to revolutionise understanding of the behaviour of these tiny seabirds. At the other end of the weight scale we have successfully developed GPS tags with depth sensing and wireless download, that have been deployed on king penguins which dive to depths of 400m in Antarctic waters.
In the last few years our customers have had great success with our small wireless download (UHF) tags providing full migration tracking of arctic terns using GPS for the first time ever. The amazing journeys of these birds from the northeast coast of the USA out into the North Atlantic, South Atlantic and then finally reaching the Southern Ocean have been captured using our 2.7g tags.
