Solar

Solar options

Our 0.95g solar logger tag has been used on a variety of species including common swifts, hawfinches, purple martins and swifts. It measures 18x11x4mm plus ~50mm external whip antenna. It has a battery capacity of 320 GPS location attempts and can provide an additional 20 GPS location attempts per day via solar. These solar attempts assume the tag receives UK summertime sunlight. For species which receive less sunlight, such as the Hawfinch, these attempts are reduced. In addition this tiny tag can also provide burst or continuous accelerometer data capture at rates of 1Hz, 12.5Hz, 25Hz or 50Hz.

Our latest solar-charging technology, known as solarPlus, provides increased solar charging efficiencies in a lightweight and compact form factor. Utilising solarPlus with our very lightest weight tags provides a capability of up to 360 GPS location attempts per day from solar. In combination with our slightly larger tags up to 480 GPS per day can be achieved with solarPlus.

Our lightest solarPlus tag is a 1.25g logger, which has been successfully deployed on a variety of species including black swifts, bulwer’s petrels and purple martins. It measures 20x11x5mm plus ~50mm external whip antenna. It has a battery capacity of 800 GPS location attempts. As this is a very lightweight tag, it provides an additional 360 solar attempts per day in UK summertime conditions. Burst or continuous accelerometer data capture is available at rates of 1Hz, 12.5Hz, 25Hz or 50Hz.

Our lightest solarPlus tag with wireless download weighs in at just 2.4g. It has successfully been used on a variety of species inclduing choughs, common terns, lapwings and whiskered terns. It measures 34x12x7mm plus ~50mm external whip antenna. It has a battery capacity of 700 GPS location attempts including regular UHF download attempts. Due to being a lightweight tag this solarPlus tag provides an additional 360 solar attempts per day in UK summertime conditions. For species which receive less sunlight, such as the lapwing, these GPS attempts (battery-only + solar) are reduced. Burst or VeDBA accelerometer data capture options are available with this tag.

Our lightest solarPlus tag with GPS plus GSM download weighs just 7.5g. This tag has successfully been deployed on curlews. It measures 38x17x12mm plus ~50mm external whip antenna. It has a battery capacity of 1500 GPS location attempts excluding GSM. 2G and 4G options are available. This tag provides up to 300 GPS location attempts per day from solar, excluding GSM. It can provide up to 144 GPS location attempts per day from solar with twice daily GSM upload attempts. Solar figures are based on UK summertime conditions. Burst or VeDBA accelerometer data capture options are available with this tag.
